Stories from the Heart - SAMHSA Sponsored
Description
During Recovery Month in September 2006, Asian American Family Services will present "Stories from the Heart", a traveling exhibit which will feature 3 heartfelt stories about the journey to recovery in different stages--Lost, Seek, and Hope. Educational material and recovery resources will also be distributed.

The traveling exhibit will allow Asian high school youth to read about real life stories from their peers. The youth will also have an opportunity to sign the exhibit in honor of someone they know who is on the journey to recovery, in memory of someone who did not reach to the end, or as a pledge to themselves to stay away from the dangerous path of drug abuse.

The event is the First Annual Ride For Recovery. A motorcycle ride to celebrate recovery from addiction in the Houston Texas area. Riders will meet at Memorial Hermann Prevention & Recovery Center at 1550 LaConcha, Houston, Texas 77054 for a continental breakfast at 9:00am and leave at 10:00am for a approx. 60 mile ride to the AA Bay Area Club in League City, Texas. At the Bay Area Club there will be speakers, music, door prizes and catered Bar-B-Que lunch. The cost is $30.00 for breakfast, lunch, t-shirt and the ride. Profits from the event will be donated to The Men's Center and The Way Out Women's Center; two local organization the offer drug/alcohol for the uninsured.
