Adrian Training School 1st Annual Recovery Month Substance Abuse Fair
Description
The substance abuse program at Adrian Training School held a substance abuse fair in order to increase awareness surrounding substance abuse prevention and treatment, highlight the benefits of treatment and recovery from substance use disorders, help overcome barriers and stigmas that can affect people who are seeking treatment or are in recovery, and to identify service providers who could serve as resources for our young women as they transition back to their communities. We began the event with a tour of our campus and then we invited a guest Speaker from Home of New Vision to speak to our youth about her story of addiction and recovery. We then held a fair in the afternoon which consisted of varios service providers and we simultaneously held breakout sessions which include:

Dawn Farm Education Series
Description
The Dawn Farm Education Series is a FREE annual workshop series developed to provide accurate, helpful, hopeful, practical, current information about chemical dependency and recovery.

The series is organized by Dawn Farm, a non-profit community of programs providing a range of chemical dependency services. Dawn Farms goal is to assist addicts and alcoholics to achieve long-term recovery. Dawn Farm works to identify and remove barriers that prevent addicts and alcoholics from joining the recovering community. The Education Series is designed to reduce the myths, misconceptions, prejudices, secrecy, shame and stigma that prevent addicts, alcoholics and their families from getting help and getting well, and to help create a community culture that supports recovery.

The programs are presented by Dawn Farm staff and other experts. This years series will kick-off with a very popular workshop titled Addiction 101, presented by James Balmer, Dawn Farms President, who later in the series will also present a new workshop, Language of the Heart, that is guaranteed to deeply touch anyone who has ever been touched by recovery. Several past favorites will be revisited, including a workshop on "Intervention" by Jeff and Debra Jay, internationally-know intervention experts, authors, and media personalities and co-authors of the popular book, "Love First: A New Approach to Alcoholism and Addiction." Other new workshops will include "Decade of Decision: The Future of Addiction Treatment & Recovery" by William White, a renowned expert in the field of addiction/recovery and author of the popular books, "Pathways from the Culture of Addiction to the Culture of Recovery," "Slaying the Dragon: The History of Addiction Treatment and Recovery in America," and numerous other publications.

Programs will be presented on several Tuesday evenings, from October 17, 2006 through July 3, 2007. All will be held from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Please see http://www.dawnfarm.org/edseries_workshops.html for details.
