Title	Recovery Month Kick-Off - National Survey on Drug Abuse Release - SAMHSA Sponsored
Description	The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will unveil the new National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 7. The annual survey, formerly called the Household Survey is the largest of its kind, and is the governments primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco. The release of the 2005 survey is the highlight of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference that ushers in a month long observance lauding the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers.

He serves in the delegated capacity as administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). John P. Walters, Director, White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, was sworn in as Director on December 7, 2001. As the nation's Drug Czar, he coordinates all aspects of federal drug programs and spending. Dr. H. Westley Clark, M.D., J.D., M.P.H., Director of SAMHSA's Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. Tonya Wheeler, in recovery for addiction to methamphetamine, is the President of Advocates for Recovery, a grassroots organization in Colorado dedicated to making recovery from addiction visible to her home state as well as other audiences across the nation as a positive, attainable goal. Tonya works as a Certified Addictions Counselor - Level III for the University of Colorado Hospital at the Center for Dependency, Addiction and Rehabilitation and has worked in the substance abuse field for over fourteen years. Ashley Hadeed, in recovery from addiction to prescription medications, is currently interning with Jupiter Teen Challenge and will be attending college in January, 2007.
