Departments of State and Education to Host Higher Education Summit for Global Development

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rwandan President Paul Kagame will join Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings, and U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator and Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance Henrietta Fore at a Higher Education Summit for Global Development. Participants include more than 200 university presidents from the U.S. and overseas, as well as corporate and foundation leaders. The Summit aims to strengthen the role of U.S. and foreign higher education institutions in social and economic development worldwide.

Media representatives may cover the open press portions of this meeting upon registration with Melissa Price at mprice@usaid.gov or 202-712-4320. On the day of the Summit, individuals will need to present one of the following forms of identification at the 23rd Street Entrance to the Department of State: (1) a U.S. Government-issued media identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license or passport).
