Special Opportunity grants are made because of the Foundation’s response to special circumstances.  For example, the Kellogg Foundation funded a number of projects and seminars to highlight its own 75th Anniversary. The grants helped to advance the work of its grantees while shining a light on the important role that philanthropy plays in today’s society. Similarly, it responded immediately to the needs created by Katrina when it decimated lives.
