Photo of Elizabeth G. "Betty" Flores, Laredo MayorIt is exciting, challenging and exhilarating to be Mayor of Laredo, Texas, a city quickly gaining international recognition.

As the world enters into the 21st Century, the City of Laredo is poised to be one of the major players in international trade movement with the full resources of four international bridges. The most recent addition to the fleet of bridges is a $128-million fully automated facility designed to meet the commercial needs of the booming international trade occurring between the two most populated nations in the Western Hemisphere. This facility is equipped with an Automatic Vehicle Identification system, a Weigh in Motion scale, and an Electronic Toll Collection system designed to efficiently expedite commercial crossings.

The implementation of these technologies into a single processing facility makes the Laredo port unique to all other ports of entry on the U.S./Mexican border. As the innovative leader in bridge facilities, Laredo's efficiency reaches deep into the heartland of America as the $800 million in accumulative imports and exports account for conservatively 700,000 U.S. jobs.

The City of Laredo is ready and willing to continue serving the needs of these two great nations with enhanced transportation and border facilities.

Laredo Mayor
