ARMED ROBBER SENTENCED TO OVER 18 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON

GARY WOODS, age 26, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced today by U. S. District Court Judge Martin L.C. Feldman to 218 months imprisonment, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

WOODS pled guilty to conspiracy to commit armed robbery, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and brandishing a firearm while committing a crime of violence. According to the court documents, WOODS conspired with others to commit numerous bank robberies of businesses located throughout the New Orleans area. During these robberies, WOODS and his co-conspirators used physical assault and threats to physically assault people. Further investigation revealed that WOODS received a felony conviction on December 11, 2001, Orleans Parish Criminal District Court # 423-631 “D,” for Attempted Armed Robbery. Additionally, WOODS was charged with committing armed robbery along together with two other co-conspirators of the AutoZone located at 8200 Earhart Boulevard on August 11, 2006. During the commission of that armed robbery, WOODS brandished a firearm in furtherance of the robbery.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Officers of the New Orleans Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Liz Privitera of the Violent Crime Unit.
