PROJECT CEASEFIRE

KANSAS MAN SENTENCED FOR ILLEGAL FIREARM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Bradley J. Schlozman, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Pleasenton, Kan., man was sentenced in federal court today for illegally possessing a firearm. Today’s sentencing is the result of a successful investigation under Project Ceasefire, the district’s ongoing anti-crime initiative.

Joshua D. Lindsey, 27, of Pleasenton, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ortrie D. Smith this morning to six years and five months in federal prison without parole.

On Nov. 3, 2006, Lindsey pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Lindsey was in possession of a Smith and Wesson 9 mm semi-automatic pistol on June 16, 2006. The firearm was found by law enforcement officers who responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident between Lindsey’s vehicle and a tractor-trailer. Under federal law, Schlozman explained, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Lindsey has a 2004 criminal felony conviction for fleeing to elude law enforcement officers and a 1999 criminal felony conviction for possession of methamphetamine.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bruce E. Clark. It was investigated by the Independence, Mo., Police Department, the Henry County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Project Ceasefire

Project Ceasefire, launched in October 1999, is a cooperative initiative by federal and local law enforcement and the Kansas City Crime Commission that targets for federal prosecution persons who unlawfully use or possess firearms.
