USAID Partner Reaches Out to Romanian Flood Victims
When the mayor of Ostrov requested aid for 423 local flood victims, USAID implementing partner CHF International (CHF) leapt into action, gathering food and necessities valued at $8,000—enough to pack 1,290 bags containing potatoes, onions, canned meats and vegetables, detergent, and soap. On May 24, 2006 eight local volunteers met the CHF truck at the town hall to assist with the packaging, distribution and, in some cases, transport of relief supplies to eligible families. Within two hours, all but three of the 138 families had retrieved their packages.
Residents expressed their gratitude to CHF and USAID, offering thanks and traditional wishes for good health and prosperity. Over one-third of Ostrov remains underwater.
