MBA’s Petar Ivanovic accepts 2004 Make a Better World Award

The Montenegro Business Alliance (MBA), supported by the USAID Private Sector Development Project in Montenegro, has been chosen as the Overall Winner in the Advocacy Category of the American Society of Association Executives' (ASAE) Association's 2004 Make a Better World Awards. The ASAE awards seek to recognize outstanding examples of association programs, projects and activities that make a significant contribution to societies and economies worldwide. The awards are presented annually to recognize the valuable contributions made by U.S. associations working internationally as well as associations based outside the United States. The MBA received the award for its National Business Agenda, a unified platform developed by the business community to determine its concerns, interests and priorities and communicate them to the public, policy makers and legislators.

USAID has been working with the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and its sub-grantee, the Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (CEED), to establish an umbrella business association that would give a voice to the business community in Montenegro . Since September 2001, the MBA has grown to over 365 dues-paying members united in the understanding that by working together their input can make a difference. MBA members employ over 10,300 workers and created over 1,200 jobs in 2003.

Involving over 200 volunteers in its development and reaching more than 6,000 people, MBA's National Business Agenda has mobilized the business community. The agenda has also influenced public policy with an intensive advocacy campaign that has included policy forums and meetings with key government officials, the media and academia.

BA accepted the special Associations Make a Better World Award in Barcelona in December 2004, during an annual global exhibition for the incentive, business travel and meetings industry.
