Consulting Support Yields Fast Growth for Construction Firm

Today, Tegika Universal, Ltd. is one of the most successful construction companies in Kutaisi, Georgia. Just a year ago, however, it had faced its share of challenges. Says company director Kote Kekeladze, “at some point I had to acknowledge that the company faced certain difficulties and it was beyond my competence to handle them.” In fact, Tegika Universal lacked a concrete business strategy, market analysis, and detailed production plan. Further, the absence of an established internal planning processes meant that decisions were made spontaneously, creating havoc for financial and engineering management systems. The company urgently needed to develop a comprehensive business plan and implement changes in company management.

Seeking resolution, in June 2007, Tegika Universal approached Kutaisi Consulting, a member of the Business Consulting Network Georgia established by the USAID-funded Small and Medium Enterprise Support project. Kutaisi Consulting had built a reputation in the region for providing reputable and reliable consulting services. In close cooperation with its client, Kutaisi Consulting developed a company rehabilitation project for Tegika Universal, encompassing a comprehensive business plan with a marketing strategy, financial and operational plans, as well as recommendations for management changes.

Within three months, Tegika Universal fully implemented the new business plan and experienced immediate growth. Its client roster rose from a total of eight in July 2007 to 19 by December 2007, and increased the company’s turnover by 20 percent. The advanced marketing strategy helped improve Tegika Universal’s public image, leading to new contracts to renovate buildings owned by Tsereteli State University, the National Bank of Georgia’s Kutaisi branch, and numerous local sport stadiums.

The renovation of the Kutaisi branch of the National Bank of Georgia is just one of the ongoing projects implemented by Tegika Universal Ltd.
