Independent Think Tanks Receive Grants for New Studies on Reform

On April 23, the program board of USAID/Russia’s Strengthening Economic Think Tanks (SETT) activity awarded 12 grants to independent Russian think tanks totaling $500,000. The grants will fund studies on reform topics including economic policy at the municipal level, analysis of internal and external migration flows, sub-federal administrative regulation, competition in medical insurance system, and strengthening Russian independent think tanks. In addition to proposals from long-term USAID/Russia partner institutions that have repeatedly produced high-quality, and timely policy analysis, the board, which consists of reputable Russian policy experts and reform practitioners, also awarded two grants to regional think tanks based in Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg. The board noted that the regional proposals were as strong and well-prepared as proposals from more experienced national think tanks.
