USAID Helps Political Parties Create Websites and Databases
Throughout June 2007, 30 representatives from five of Azerbaijan’s main political parties created eight websites after completing a USAID-supported web design course conducted at the IATP center in Baku. The trainings are part of IATP’s project with USAID’s Political Party Building, Election Assistance, and Civic Programming project implemented by National Democracy Institute (NDI), which is aimed at improving the work of political parties through knowledge of and access to information technologies.
For some participants, their sites became the official websites of their political parties and youth organizations, while others simply updated existing sites. Training completion certificates were issued to participants at a special ceremony held at the IREX office in Azerbaijan.
In a separate training, representatives of six political parties learned to build simple databases for tracking members and voters. IATP Center Administrator Azer Kerimov taught the trainees how to create tables, forms, reports, queries, and index fields.
Upon receiving his database training certificate, participant Tural Abbasli, a member of the Musavat Party commented,” We didn’t have a database containing information about our voters, [which] was an impediment to the interaction between us and the voters. Now after attending IATP trainings, we created a database that will make our electoral campaign more effective.”
