Young Leaders Launch DemocraticYouth.Net

At a September 28 press conference in Chisinau, Moldova, a group of young political leaders from 17 Eastern European and Eurasian countries announced the launch of an online community created to attract and engage youth in furthering democracy across the region. The website and a Youth Declaration, also presented to the media, are products of the four-day 2006 Young Political Leaders Seminar in Moldova, which was hosted by USAID and its implementing partners, the International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, and the American Council of Young Political Leaders. A volunteer team of seminar participants designed and developed content for the site, DemocraticYouth.net, which was built to facilitate networking and the exchange of best practices. Membership is free; those interested can join by simply registering online. In the coming months, fresh content on topics ranging from anti-corruption to free speech will be gathered and posted by the. Other features will include live webcasts with experts on development, political affairs and current events in Eastern Europe and Eurasia. For more information, visit www.DemocraticYouth.net.
