USAID Partners with Nestle Bulgaria, JobTiger to Produce Internship and Career Forum for University Students
The Fifth Annual Internship and Careers Forum was held on March 16, 2006 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The forum creates career and Human Resources development opportunities for university students and employers. It is a joint initiative of USAID, Nestle Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Dream Program of the Ministry of State Administration, and JobTiger.
This year USAID initiated a series of meetings with HR managers prior to the forum to increase their awareness of internship programs as a tool for recruiting. This was the final step in a series of USAID efforts aimed at facilitating the creation of quality internship programs for students.
The forum is visiting five major Bulgarian cities this year including for the first time Rousse where 30 companies will participate. The interest in the program continues to grow as more and more companies participate throughout Bulgaria. As a result, the number of companies with internship programs offered at the forum in Sofia was more than double than in 2005.
The event is part of the USAID Labor Market Project’s National Internships Program. The Program’s objective is to strengthen the currently loose links between the academic institutions and the business so that students graduate with knowledge and skills adequate to that demanded by business.
