Bulgarian Regional Court Chairman Honored for Tolerance

The Mediation Center in Assenovgrad established by Partners Bulgaria Foundation and funded by USAID bestowed the prize for “Most Tolerant Person” to Mr. Daniel Lukov, Chair of the Regional Court for 8 years. Judge Lukov was unanimously selected by the nomination committee members for his leadership in promoting open court policy and effective communication with citizens and media.

The Mediation Center in Assenovgrad opened in 2005, succeeding the Conciliation Commission established within the Ethnic Integration and Conflict Resolution Program funded by USAID and implemented by Partners Bulgaria Foundation. The mission of the Center is to promote a culture of dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution. The Assenovgrad Center works in close collaboration with the Social Services Directorate and the local Labor Office. The Mediation Center is also a strategic partner of the Municipal Council for Ethnic and Demographic Issues. As of January 2006, the Center has 16 members consisting of seven ethnic Bulgarians, five Turks, and four Roma.
