Under President George W. Bush’s leadership, the United States has adopted a new forward leaning strategy designed to encourage freedom and reform through the Broader Middle East and North Africa Initiative. This presidential initiative strives to bring together private sector businesses, non-governmental organizations, civil society groups and government officials to develop and promote innovative reform policies in the Middle East and North Africa. It focuses on democracy, economic and political reform, and education for all with full opportunities for women.

The mission of USAID Office for Public Diplomacy for Middle Eastern & MEPI Affairs is to enhance communications between the Agency and the broader Middle Eastern community in America and to catalyze the broadest possible public support for democratic reform in the Middle East region.

USAID’s public diplomacy efforts are directed at expanding the knowledge of American democratic values with Middle Eastern and North African American audiences, promoting better understanding of the policy goals and initatives of President Bush and the broader mission of USAID.
