Vicki Langenheim Research Geophysicist U.S. Geological Survey |
Vicki Langenheim is a research geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, Calif. Her areas of interest include gravity and magnetic investigations of the Basin and Range Province of Nevada and California, the Los Angeles Basin, the Mississippi Embayment, and the San Francisco Bay region. These studies utilize the gravity method and the magnetic method to understand geology, volcano and earthquake hazards, and water and mineral resources. In addition, these studies are also part of a national effort to geologically assess a potential nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain, southwest Nevada. Her work helps satisfy her desire to travel to diverse locales such as Puerto Rico and Antarctica. For 5 winters (1995-1999) she was involved in aerogeophysical surveying in Antarctica with SOAR (Support Office for Aerogeophysical Research). |
