KC man indicted for forced sex trafficking, child pornography
KANSAS CITY - A Kansas City, Mo., man was indicted by a federal grand jury today on charges related to the commercial sex trafficking of four female victims and the sexual exploitation of a fifth female victim, who was a minor. Michael L. Buck, 35, of Kansas City, was charged in a seven-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City. A motion for detention has been filed with the court, seeking to have Buck detained in federal custody until his trial.

Federal employee indicted for $600,000 embezzlement
KANSAS CITY - A federal government employee was indicted by a federal grand jury today for embezzling nearly $600,000 from the government. Michael T. Harrington, 44, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., was charged in a four-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City. Harrington is employed as a supervisory accountant at GSA.

Physicians group signs $1 million settlement agreement
SPRINGFIELD - The United States has reached a $1 million settlement that resolves claims against a Springfield, Mo., physicians group, related to its contract with Lester E. Cox Medical Centers. Ferrell-Duncan Clinic, Inc., a medical practice comprised of approximately 100 physicians, has agreed to pay $1 million to resolve the government’s claims related to Medicare payments received under Ferrell-Duncan’s contract with Cox Medical Centers.

Real estate agent, loan officers among those indicted for $12.6 million mortgage fraud
KANSAS CITY - A real estate agent and two former loan officers in Lee’s Summit, Mo., are among 17 defendants indicted by a federal grand jury today for their roles in a $12.6 million mortgage fraud scheme that involved 25 residential properties in Lee’s Summit and Raymore, Mo. Angela R. Clark, 40, James F. Simpson, 39, Cynthia D. Jordan, 41, and Stefan M. Guerra, 30, all of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Ronald E. Brown, Jr., 39, of Gladstone, Mo., Enrico J. McClain, 36, of Kansas City, Mo., Daryle A. Edwards, 37, and Leon T. Jones, 42, both of Olathe, Kan., Gerald D. Williams, 47, and his wife, Judith E. Former Clay County sheriff's deputy pleads guilty to using excessive force, obstructing justice
KANSAS CITY - A former deputy with the Clay County Sheriff’s Department pleaded guilty in federal court today to violating a defendant’s civil rights by using unreasonable force during an arrest and to obstruction of justice. Donald A. Devens, 59, of Smithville, Mo., pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple this afternoon to the federal charges that were filed against him on May 27, 2008.

Election officer appointed to oversee election day program
KANSAS CITY - Assistant United States Attorney Linda Parker Marshall will lead the efforts of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Missouri in connection with the Justice Department's nationwide election day program for the Nov. 4, 2008, general elections. Marshall has been appointed to serve as the District Election Officer, and in that capacity is responsible for overseeing the district's handling of complaints of election fraud and voting rights abuses in consultation with the Justice Department.

KC woman sentenced for identity theft, wire fraud, credit card fraud
KANSAS CITY - A Kansas City, Mo., woman was sentenced in federal court today for a scheme that involved embezzling from two former employers and stealing the identity of another employer’s customer in order to commit credit card fraud. Kimberly Thompson McKay, 41, of Kansas City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gary A. Fenner this morning to five years and five months in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered McKay to pay $33,371 in restitution.

Jury convicts KC man of armed robbery of two banks, credit union
KANSAS CITY - A Kansas City, Mo., man was convicted by a federal jury today for his role in the armed robbery of two banks and a credit union. John L. Williams, 46, of Kansas City, was found guilty of all the charges contained in a March 4, 2008, superseding indictment.

KC man sentenced to 15 years for illegal firearm
KANSAS CITY - A Kansas City, Mo, man was sentenced in federal court today for illegally possessing a firearm. Marquan L. Wilson, 32, of Kansas City, Mo., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ortrie D. Smith this afternoon to 15 years in federal prison without parole. Wilson was sentenced as an armed career offender due to his prior felony convictions.

Monett man sentenced for meth conspiracy
SPRINGFIELD - A Monett, Mo., man has been sentenced in federal court for participating in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Barry County, Mo. Ramon Hernandez-Pacheco, 29, of Monett, a citizen of Mexico with lawful permanent residence status in the United States, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard E. Dorr on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, to 12 years and seven months in federal prison without parole.

Four more plead guilt to multi-million dollar methamphetamine conspiracy
SPRINGFIELD - Four more defendants have pleaded guilty to their roles in a conspiracy to distribute millions of dollars worth of methamphetamine in Barton County, Mo., and elsewhere. Operation Buckshot is a multi-agency investigation into a large-scale drug-trafficking conspiracy that involved the distribution of methamphetamine from California through Kansas City, Mo., and into southwest Missouri. The investigation involved numerous federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Former nurse sentenced to 50 years in prison for producing child pornography
KANSAS CITY - A Cameron, Mo., man has been sentenced in federal court for drugging a minor in his custody, then using the unconscious girl to produce child pornography. William S. Price, 45, of Cameron, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nanette K. Laughrey on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, to 50 years in federal prison without parole. Price was sentenced to the maximum possible sentence of 30 years in prison for producing child pornography and 20 years in prison for receiving child pornography, to be served consecutively. The court also ordered Price to pay $271,675 in restitution to the victim.

Peruvian national sentenced for credit card conspiracy that targeted elderly women
KANSAS CITY - A third Peruvian national has been sentenced in federal court for participating in a conspiracy to steal credit cards from elderly women, then make thousands of dollars in purchases with the stolen credit cards. Carlos Vidaurre, 41, a citizen of Peru living in California, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gary A. Fenner on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, to four years and nine months in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Vidaurre to pay $47,781 in restitution.

Former water district officials plead guilty to mail fraud conspiracy
KANSAS CITY - The long-time president of a public water district and his wife, who served as the district’s clerk, pleaded guilty in federal court today to embezzling more than $390,000 in a mail fraud conspiracy. Stephen C. Collier, 62, and his wife, Sharron K. Collier, 62, both of Rich Hill, Mo., waived their right to a grand jury and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Ortrie D. Smith this afternoon to conspiracy to commit mail fraud.

Kidder attorney sentenced for $866,000 bank fraud
KANSAS CITY - A Kidder, Mo., attorney was sentenced in federal court today for defrauding a North Kansas City, Mo., bank in a series of loans totaling $866,810. Dawn Renee Harpster, 38, of Kidder, was sentenced by U.S. Chief District Judge Fernando J. Gaitan, Jr., this morning to four years and two months in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Harpster to pay $866,810 in restitution.

KC cab driver sentenced for embezzling $640,000 from wealthy senior citizen
KANSAS CITY - A former taxi cab driver, who befriended then embezzled more than $640,000 from a wealthy customer, was sentenced in federal court today for bank fraud. Ringling Dan Cohn, 57, of Kansas City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ortrie D. Smith this morning to eight years in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Cohn to pay $640,820 in restitution.

Jury convicts KC woman of Social Security fraud, theft of HUD, food stamp benefits
KANSAS CITY - A Kansas City, Mo., woman was convicted in federal court today for Social Security fraud and for receiving housing and food stamp benefits for which she was not eligible. Patricia Ann Foreman, 50, of Kansas City, was found guilty on all four counts of a June 24, 2008, federal indictment that charges her with defrauding government benefit programs.

Music teacher indicted for child pornography
KANSAS CITY - A music teacher at two Kansas City-area schools has been indicted by a federal grand jury for possessing child pornography and receiving child pornography over the Internet. William Harold Laursen, 55, of Kansas City, Mo., was charged in a six-count indictment returned under seal by a federal grand jury in Kansas City, Mo., on Sept. 23, 2008. Laursen is a music teacher at Kansas City Academy in Kansas City, Mo., and at CS-1 Junior High School in Prairie Village, Kan.

Columbia man charged with possessing child pornography
SPRINGFIELD - A Columbia, Mo., man has been charged in federal court with possessing child pornography on his computer. John Steven Green, 26, fo Columbia, was charged in a federal criminal complaint that was filed on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, in the U.S. District Court in Springfield. Green remains in federal custody; a detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008.

Former Buchanan County official pleads guilty to stealing $118,000
KANSAS CITY - A former Buchanan County, Mo., official pleaded guilty in federal court today to embezzling $118,000 from Social Security payments intended for dependent or disabled clients served by her office. Bonnie Sue Lawson, 68, of St. Joseph, Mo., waived her right to a grand jury and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Gary A. Fenner this afternoon to a federal information that charges her with stealing public money.

Second defendant charged with killing security guard during armed bank robbery
KANSAS CITY - Two St. Louis, Mo., men were indicted by a federal grand jury today for killing security guard Dwight Mayhugh, Sr., during an armed bank robbery. Iralee E. French, Jr., 21, and Thirplus Moose, 21, both of St. Louis, were charged in a nine-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City. Today’s indictment replaces a federal criminal complaint filed against French, who is formerly from Kansas City, on Aug. 28, 2008.

Business owner sentenced for leading $17 million mortgage fraud conspiracy
KANSAS CITY - A North Kansas City, Mo., business owner was sentenced in federal court today for leading a nearly $17 million mortgage fraud conspiracy. Raymond Walter Zwego, Jr., 60, of Kansas City, Mo., was sentenced by U.S. Chief District Judge Fernando J. Gaitan, Jr., this morning to 10 years in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Zwego to pay $5,599,767 in restitution. The court also sentenced Zwego to three years in federal prison, to be served consecutively to the mortgage fraud sentence, for violating the terms of his supervised released on a prior bank fraud conviction, for a total sentence of 13 years.

SPRINGFIELD - A Neosho, Mo., man – who was arrested following a shootout and a high-speed chase in which two police officers were wounded – was sentenced in federal court today for possessing stolen firearms. Three more plead guilty to roles in $15 million tax fraud conspiracy
KANSAS CITY - Three more co-defendants have pleaded guilty in federal court to their roles in a multi-million dollar conspiracy to defraud the Internal Revenue Service. The wire fraud scheme involved stealing the identities of hundreds of victims, primarily nursing home residents, which were used to seek more than $15 million in fraudulent federal tax refunds. Moses Ndubai, 34, and Karingithi Gotonga Kamau, age unknown, both of whom are citizens of Kenya, and Michael Anderson, 50, all of Kansas City, Mo., have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and to defraud the United States by impairing the collection of tax revenue. They also each pleaded guilty to wire fraud and aiding and abetting wire fraud.

Kinman, 27, of Overland Park, was sentenced by U.S. Chief District Judge Fernando J. Gaitan this morning to two years and six months in federal prison without parole. KANSAS CITY - Two co-defendants have been sentenced in federal court for their roles in a conspiracy to distribute hundreds of thousands of ecstasy pills, worth approximately $2 million, as well as PCP in Jackson County, Mo. Dempsey Johnson, 29, of Kansas City, Mo., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gary A. Fenner this morning to 20 years in federal prison without parole for his role in distributing crack cocaine and ecstasy. Co-defendant Delesha Hughes, 24, also of Kansas City, was sentenced to four years and six months in federal prison without parole.

Former Shell Knob man pleads guilty to illegally taking paddlefish eggs, selling caviar
SPRINGFIELD - A former Shell Knob, Mo., man pleaded guilty in federal court today to his role in a conspiracy to harvest the eggs from paddlefish caught in illegal nets at Table Rock Lake, which were processed into caviar and sold to a Tennessee company. Two KC men receive multiple life sentences for racially-motivated murder
KANSAS CITY - Steven Sandstrom, 23, and Gary L. Eye, 22, both of Kansas City, Mo., received multiple life sentences today for the racially-motivated murder of William McCay on March 9, 2005. The defendants were convicted on May 8, 2008. Today’s announcement was made jointly by John F. Wood, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, and Grace Chung Becker, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.

KC man sentenced to life in prison for double homicide, drug trafficking
KANSAS CITY - A Kansas City, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for the 2002 double homicide of Anthony Rios and Olivia Raya. Dyshawn L. Johnson, also known as “Chopper,” 33, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple this morning to three consecutive terms of life in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Johnson to pay $12,762 in restitution for the cost of funerals for the victims.

KC man sentenced for bank robberies in Springfield, Sweet Springs
SPRINGFIELD - A Kansas City, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for robbing Great Southern Bank in Springfield, Mo., and First Community Bank in Sweet Springs, Mo. Steven Kyle Baugh, 45, of Kansas City, was sentenced by U.S District Judge Richard E. Dorr this morning to seven years in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Baugh to pay $2,470 in restitution to the two banks he robbed.

Jury convicts former Springfield police officer for fraud scheme
SPRINGFIELD - A former Springfield, Mo., police officer was convicted by a federal jury today for using his ex-wife’s identity in a scheme to defraud a credit card company and an online payment service. Charles Edward Johnson, 45, of Springfield, was found guilty of mail fraud and credit card fraud. Johnson was an officer with the Springfield Police Department.

KANSAS CITY - A Council Bluffs, Iowa, man pleaded guilty in federal court today to selling fake Rolex watches on the online auction site eBay. Roy M. Blue Springs man sentenced to 27 years for possessing ammunition
KANSAS CITY - A Blue Springs, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for being a felon in possession of ammunition. Demario B. Griffin, 27, of Blue Springs, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple this morning to 27 years and three months in federal prison without parole. Griffin, who was sentenced as a career criminal, received the maximum sentence under the federal sentencing guidelines.

KANSAS CITY - A Lenexa, Kan., man has been sentenced in federal court for his role in a nearly $16 million mortgage fraud conspiracy. Rick A. Peterson, 34, of Lenexa, Kan., was sentenced by U.S. Chief District Judge Fernando J. Gaitan on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, to five years in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Peterson to pay a $2,500 fine.

Former KC man charged with killing security guard during armed bank robbery
KANSAS CITY - A former Kansas City, Mo., man was charged in federal court today with killing a security guard during an armed robbery. "Today's criminal complaint is the result of the diligent work of law enforcement investigators as well as the assistance of the public," said Wood. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Dwight Mayhugh, Sr." Iralee E. French, Jr., 21, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Kansas City, was charged in a criminal complaint filed this afternoon in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Mo. Today’s complaint alleges that French killed security guard Dwight W. Mayhugh, Sr., during an armed robbery at United Missouri Bank on Feb. 24, 2006.

Jury convicts Belton man for crack cocaine conspiracy; faces life in federal prison
KANSAS CITY - A federal jury convicted a Belton, Mo., man for his role in a conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine. Chris Coleman, 34, of Belton, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine as well as aiding and abetting others to distribute five grams or more of crack cocaine.

Columbia woman pleads guilty to conspiracy to distribute steroids
JEFFERSON CITY - A Columbia, Mo., woman pleaded guilty in federal court today to participating in a conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids and to money-laundering. Today’s conviction is the result of Operation Raw Deal, an international investigation targeting the illegal manufacturing and trafficking of anabolic steroids and its raw materials, mainly from China. The related investigation in the Western District of Missouri is called Operation Juice Box. April Dawn Wilson, 33, of Columbia, pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge William A. Knox this morning to the conspiracy charge contained in a Sept. 24, 2007, federal indictment and to the money-laundering charge contained in an information that was filed today.

Today’s conviction is the result of an international investigation targeting the illegal manufacturing and trafficking of anabolic steroids and its raw materials, mainly from China. Bryan Greggory Wilson, 39, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Columbia, pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge William A. Knox this morning to the charges contained in a March 7, 2008, superseding indictment.

Lake Ozark will pay $50,000 fine
KANSAS CITY - The city of Lake Ozark, Mo., pleaded guilty in federal court today to illegally discharging sewage into the Lake of the Ozarks. Lake Ozark Mayor Johnnie Franzeskas signed today’s plea agreement in which the city admitted to repeatedly discharging raw, untreated sewage into the Lake of the Ozarks. Under the terms of the plea agreement, the city will pay a fine of $50,000. The city also agreed to upgrade and maintain its wastewater treatment system and to report any and all bypasses from its treatment system and lift stations as required by the state.

Edwards man sentenced to 30 years for producing child pornography
SPRINGFIELD - An Edwards, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for sexually exploiting a child to produce child pornography. James Ray Starling, 46, of Edwards, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ortrie D. Smith this afternoon to 30 years in federal prison without parole, which is the statutory maximum penalty for this offense. KANSAS CITY - Three owners and operators of Asian massage parlors in Johnson County, Kan., pleaded guilty in federal court today to engaging in human trafficking by coercing their employees, whom they recruited from China, to engage in prostitution. Ling Xu, also known as “Cherry,” 46, Zhong Yan Liu, also known as “Lucky,” 36, and Cheng Tang, also known as “Tom,” 22, all citizens of China residing in Overland Park, pleaded guilty in separate appearances this morning before U.S. District Judge Fernando J. Gaitan. Each of the defendants pleaded guilty to coercing persons to travel across state lines and national borders to engage in prostitution and illegal sexual services. They also pleaded guilty to money laundering by wiring more than $500,000 from the proceeds of that unlawful activity to China. Xu also pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft for using the passports and identification of her female workers in order to make most of those wire transfers. KANSAS CITY - A Kansas City, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for his role in a conspiracy to distribute large amounts of cocaine in the Country Club Plaza area. A Florida man pleaded guilty to his role in the cocaine trafficking conspiracy. Jacques Lavigne, also known as Frank Moran, 64, of Kansas City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ortrie D. Smith this afternoon to 20 years in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Lavigne to forfeit any property derived from the proceeds of the offenses, including $2,010,390 that was received in exchange for the distribution of cocaine as well as property seized from Lavigne at his apartment, which included $461,722, jewelry with an estimated value of $51,000, various paintings, sculptures and other artwork with an estimated value of $33,866, two flat screen televisions, a projection television and a 2003 Mercedes-Benz.

Jury convicts two men for racially-motivated murder
KANSAS CITY - Two Kansas City, Mo., men were convicted by a federal jury today for the racially-motivated murder of William McCay on March 9, 2005. Gary L. Eye, 21, and Steven Sandstrom, 22, both of Kansas City, were found guilty of shooting and killing McCay because of his race and because he was using a public street. Eye and Sandstrom were also found guilty of shooting and killing McCay in order to prevent him from communicating information about the attack to a federal law enforcement officer. Under federal statutes, Eye and Sandstrom are subject to either the death penalty or life in federal prison without parole for those convictions.

KANSAS CITY - A Belton, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today on charges related to child pornography over the Internet. Kamron E. Dehghani, 22, of Belton, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gary A. Fenner to 36 years in federal prison without parole. The sentence is an upward departure from the federal sentencing guidelines as a result of the court’s ruling that Dehghani had threatened judges, attorneys and others and that he had made plans to escape from custody. The court also ruled that Dehghani had obstructed justice by testifying falsely under oath, that he had exposed his 4-year-old daughter to online child pornography, had an inappropriate relationship with an 11-year-old girl to whom he was sexually attracted, and that he had an extensive obsession with child pornography.

Lee's Summit helicopter dealer pleads guilty to wire fraud, money laundering
KANSAS CITY - The owner of a Lee’s Summit, Mo., company that purchases damaged helicopters and repairs them for resale pleaded guilty in federal court today to wire fraud and money laundering related to the fraudulent sale of a damaged engine compressor from a helicopter that crashed into the ocean. Robert A. Schlotzhauer, 68, of Lee’s Summit, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Gary A. Fenner this morning to the charges contained in a Nov. 6, 2007, superseding indictment. Under the terms of today’s plea agreement, Schlotzhauer has liquidated the assets of his Lee’s Summit businesses, Falcon Helicopter, Inc., and Lee’s Summit Turbine, LLC, and agreed to surrender all repair-related FAA certificates. The plea agreement also stipulates that an appropriate sentence in this case is a $550,000 fine, $63,854 in restitution to Rainbow Air, Inc., 12 months of home confinement at Schlotzhauer’s expense, and a period of probation to be determined by the court.

KANSAS CITY - A Vallejo, Calif., woman was sentenced in federal court today for identity theft after using fraudulent credit cards to purchase nearly $100,000 in merchandise at several Kansas City area Target stores during a three-day spending spree last summer. Sharlita Y. Proctor, 31, of Vallejo, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs this morning to three years and five months in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Johnson to pay $94,220 in restitution.

Islamic charity charged with terrorist financing; former U.S. Congressman indicted for money laundering
KANSAS CITY - A A federal grand jury in the Western District of Missouri has returned a superseding indictment that charges the Islamic American Relief Agency (IARA) and several of its former officers with eight new counts of engaging in prohibited financial transactions for the benefit of U.S.-designated terrorist Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. The indictment also charges former U.S. Congressman Mark Deli Siljander with money laundering, conspiracy and obstruction of justice in the case. IARA, the Islamic charitable organization named in today’s indictment, was headquartered in Columbia, Mo., and was formerly known as the Islamic African Relief Agency-USA. IARA was officially formed in 1985 and closed in October 2004, when it was identified by the U.S. Treasury Department as a specially designated global terrorist organization. Mubarak Hamed, 51, of Columbia, Mo., a naturalized U.S. citizen from Sudan, served as IARA’s former executive director and is named as a defendant in the indictment. Also charged in today’s superseding indictment is Mark Deli Siljander, 57, a former U.S. Congressman from Michigan (1981-87) who serves as the owner/director of Global Strategies, Inc., a planning, marketing and public relations company located in the Washington, D.C. area. Other defendants named in the indictment are Ali Mohamed Bagegni, 53, formerly of Columbia, Mo, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Libya and a former member of IARA’s board of directors; Ahmad Mustafa, 55, of Columbia, a citizen of Iraq, and a former fund-raiser for IARA; Khalid Al-Sudanee, 56, a citizen and resident of Jordan, and the regional director of the Middle East office of the Islamic African Relief Agency (also known as the Islamic Relief Agency, or ISRA); and Abdel Azim El-Siddig, 51, of Palos Heights, Ill., a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Sudan, and formerly vice president for international operations for IARA.

Jury convicts George's Processing employee for harboring illegal aliens
SPRINGFIELD - A Monett, Mo., woman who was involved in hiring employees at George’s Processing, Inc., in Butterfield, Mo., has been convicted by a federal jury for harboring an illegal alien and inducing an illegal alien to enter or reside in the United States. Another former George’s Processing employee recently pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft in a separate but related case. Dora Ruiz, 33, of Monett, was found guilty on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, of two counts contained in an Oct. 16, 2007, federal indictment. In a separate but related case, Sinthia Valadez-Ramirez, 23, address unknown, pleaded guilty on Jan. 8, 2008, to aiding and abetting others to commit aggravated identity theft. Both Ruiz and Valadez-Ramirez formerly worked in the human resources department at George’s Processing and were involved in the hiring process at the plant.

KC, Florida men indicted for $2 million cocaine conspiracy
KANSAS CITY - A Kansas City, Mo., man and a Pembroke Pines, Fla., man were indicted by a federal grand jury today for their roles in a conspiracy to distribute large amounts of cocaine in the Country Club Plaza area. Jacques Lavigne, also known as Frank Moran, 64, of Kansas City, and Oscar A. Torres, Jr., 38, of Pembroke Pines, were charged in a nine-count superseding indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City. Today’s superseding indictment replaces a Nov. 7, 2007, indictment, adding Torres as a co-defendant.

Stewartsville man indicted for two St. Joseph bank robberies
KANSAS CITY - A Stewartsville, Mo., man was indicted by a federal grand jury today for robbing two financial institutions in St. Joseph, Mo. Donny James Eskridge, 49, of Stewartsville, was charged in a two-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City. Today’s indictment replaces a federal criminal complaint that was filed against Eskridge on Dec. 20, 2007 and includes an additional bank robbery charge.

KANSAS CITY - A Leavenworth, Kan., man was sentenced in federal court today for participating in a conspiracy that involved a series of bank robberies in the Northland and in Kansas. Christopher C. Pinkston, 28, of Leavenworth, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs this morning to12 years and seven months in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Pinkston to pay $28,050 in restitution.

KANSAS CITY - A Kansas City, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for recruiting minors for prostitution. Don L. Elbert II, 26, of Kansas City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ortrie D. Smith this afternoon to eight years in federal prison without parole, followed by a 15-year term of supervised release. The court also ordered Elbert to pay $524,571 in restitution to the victims.

KANSAS CITY - A Lee’s Summit, Mo., husband and wife, who operated a multi-million dollar firm marketing trusts and a retail business selling American Silver Eagle coins, have been sentenced in federal court for aiding and abetting the filing of false tax returns. James E. Aldridge, Jr., 52, and his wife, Shirley L. Aldridge, 50, both of Lee’s Summit, were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008. James Aldridge was sentenced to nine years in federal prison without parole. Shirley Aldridge was sentenced to five years and three months in federal prison without parole.

Independence man sentenced to 15 years for illegal firearm
KANSAS CITY - An Independence, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for illegally possessing a firearm. John C. LaDue II, 27, of Independence, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ortrie D. Smith this morning to 15 years in federal prison without parole. LaDue was sentenced as an armed career offender due to his prior violent felony convictions.

Former KC Councilwoman sentenced for mortgage fraud conspiracy
KANSAS CITY - A former Kansas City Councilwoman was sentenced in federal court today for conspiracy and wire fraud for her role in a $400,000 mortgage fraud scheme. Saundra A. McFadden-Weaver, 48, of Kansas City, Mo., was sentenced by U.S. Chief District Judge Fernando J. Gaitan, Jr., to two months of incarceration followed by four months of home detention as part of a three-year period of supervised release. The court will recommend that the Bureau of Prisons designate a local residential re-entry center for the custodial sentence, with authorized work release at both the residential re-entry center and during home confinement. The court also ordered McFadden-Weaver to pay $144,234 in restitution.

Texas youth coach sentenced for sexually molesting minors
KANSAS CITY - A girls youth wrestling coach was sentenced in federal court today for sexually molesting minors aboard a charter bus traveling through Missouri on its return trip to Texas. Timothy Daniel Morriss, 44, of Weir, Texas, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Scott O. Wright this morning to 10 years in federal prison without parole, followed by 10 years of supervised release. The court also ordered Morriss to pay $51,354 in restitution to two victims.
