One special-purpose computer system is the commercial digital photogrammetric workstation running the SOCET SET® (SOftCopy Exploitation ToolSET) software available through Leica Geosystems. Hardware includes a Sun Ultra 10 440-MHz graphics workstation with 1-GB RAM, 24-bit color graphics card, 20" monitor with optoelectronic stereo viewing device using passive polarized glasses, 3-D hand controller ("gerbil"), 38-GB disk storage, CD, 8-mm tape drives, and access to a 480-GB RAID storage system. SOCET SET® software provides a complete set of capabilities for image processing, photogrammetry, and topographic mapping, including image enhancement and display, automated and interactive pass-point selection, aerotriangulation, automated and interactive digital terrain model extraction, orthophotomosaic production, vector-based feature extraction, and export of data in a variety of CAD, GIS, and image formats. All interactive functions make use of the stereo display and hand controller for full 3-D data editing capability. Our system also includes the SOCET Developer's Toolkit for software development, with which we have developed import/export software to integrate SOCET SET® with ISIS and specialized software to support analysis of images from a variety of planetary cameras.
