Research Project: DEFINITION OF THE EXCITO-REPELLENCY OF THE INSECTICIDE DUET AND ITS SUBCOMPONENTS AGAINST MOSQUITOES

Location: Mosquito and Fly Research Unit

Project Number: 6615-32000-043-19
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Mar 21, 2007
End Date: Jan 31, 2009

Objective:
Will investigate the excito-repellency of a new insecticide that has recently been registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for killing adult mosquitoes.

Approach:
Using modern technology, the behavioral response of adult mosquitoes will be studied following their exposure to DUET, which has two active ingredients (i.e., prallethrin and sumithrin), and its subcomponents. Observations by the manufacturer have suggested that one component of this insecticide agitates resting female mosquitoes causing them to fly and thus be impacted by the second component.
