Water-Quality Information and Data

Lab tests for ecoli bacteria in water uses ultraviolet light to display the results.

The U.S. Geological Survey collects water-quality data nationwide, with about 150 stations in Montana. These data provide accurate and unbiased information that meets the needs of many diverse users. The USGS collects the water-quality data in cooperation with Federal, State, and local agencies for planning and operating water-resources projects and regulatory programs.
