Traffic Analysis Tools"Traffic analysis tools" is a collective term used to describe a variety of software-based analytical procedures and methodologies that support different aspects of traffic and transportation analyses. Traffic analysis tools include methodologies such as sketch-planning, travel demand modeling, traffic signal optimization, and traffic simulation. The Traffic Analysis Tools Program was formulated by FHWA in an attempt to strike a balance between efforts to develop new, improved tools in support of traffic operations analysis and efforts to facilitate the deployment and use of existing tools. Selection of the Proper ToolThe selection of any traffic analysis tool should align the purpose and objective of the analysis with the capabilities and limitation of the tool. From a project administrative perspective, there are several technical, time requirements and budget factors which come into play, as does the availability of the associated data. Realizing this, FHWA has developed a Traffic Analysis Toolbox, which currently contains 3 volumes. Read More about the selection of the proper traffic analysis tool.
