Purpose
Multibeam bathymetry of the Puerto Rico trench.
Summary
Multibeam bathymetry and acoustic backscatter data were collected in an
area roughly 25,000 km2 in size using SeaBeam 2112 (12 kHz) system
mounted on the hull of the NOAA ship Ronald H. Brown. Onboard tests have
established the spatial resolution of the multibeam bathymetry and the
backscatter image at this large water depth to be 100-150 m, and 30 m,
respectively. The vertical resolution could not be established independently
from the data, but is thought to be about 0.5% of the water depth
