NEW HAVEN MAN SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR USING TELEPHONE DURING DRUG DEAL Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that JAMAINE ADKINS, age 30, of 7 English Street, New Haven, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven to 48 months of imprisonment, followed by one year of supervised release. On April 19, 2007, ADKINS pleaded guilty to one count of using a telephone to facilitate a drug trafficking crime. According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on February 20, 2005, ADKINS used a telephone to arrange a drug deal involving crack cocaine. In sentencing ADKINS to the statutory maximum four-year sentence, Judge Kravitz noted ADKINS’ prior drug convictions and ADKINS’ failure to refrain from drug use while awaiting sentencing in this case. ADKINS has tested positive for the use of marijuana and PCP while awaiting sentencing. This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick F. Caruso. | |
