Project Safe Childhood: DEEP RIVER MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced DEMIAN WELLS, age 32, of 375 Winthrop Road, Deep River, Connecticut, pleaded guilty today before United States District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven to one count of possession of child pornography. According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on October 11, 2006, WELLS knowingly possessed computer disks that contained more than 600 images of child pornography. Judge Arterton has scheduled sentencing for October 17, 2007, at which time WELLS faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years and a fine of up to $250,000 WELLS was arrested on March 19, 2007. Since April 4, 2007, WELLS has been released on a $200,000 bond with strict conditions, including electronic monitoring by the United States Probation Office. This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney James K. Filan, Jr. U.S. Attorney O’Connor noted that this prosecution is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, which is aimed at protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
