Since its creation in 1989, USAID’s Leahy War Victims Fund
(LWVF) has focused on responding to the needs of civilian victims
of conflict in war-affected developing countries.
The War Victims
Fund assists people living with disabilities, particularly those who
have sustained mobility-related injuries from unexploded ordinance,
antipersonnel landmines, and other direct and indirect causes of
disability—including polio and other preventable diseases that might
result from interrupted immunization campaigns. The War Victims Fund
works to expand access to affordable, appropriate prosthetics and orthotic
services and to advance the economic, social and political integration of
civilian war victims and people living with disabilities.
