Thirty geothermal test drill holes were completed between 1976 and 1980 as part of an investigation of geothermal energy potential in the Mount Hood area. Active thermal features, consisting of near-summit fumaroles and warm springs at the southern base of Mount Hood, suggest the presence of a geothermal resource. The low flow volume of water in even the highest potential drill holes apparently has discouraged further geothermal studies. Nonetheless, the Mount Hood geothermal drilling program generated much geological, geophysical, geochemical, and mineralogical data. -- Bargar, et.al., 1993 |
