USAID´s MERC Program is a peer-reviewed, competitive research grants program.

MERC focuses on promoting scientific cooperation between Arab and Israeli researchers, students, and communities. MERC-funded projects must be relevant to development in the Middle East.

While MERC is an open-topic program that funds many types of projects, most projects focus on research fields such as agriculture, water resources, health and the environment.

Presently, MERC has active grants in Israel, Jordan, Egypt, West Bank/Gaza, Morocco, Tunisia, and Lebanon.
