Title

Village South Carnival & Block Party-SAMHSA Sponsored

Description

This year marks the second carnival/block party put on by The Village. The event is a celebration of people in recovery and their families. Dade County law enforcement blocks-off a street near The Village's treatment center. The Village provides a DJ and music, a dunk tank, and food. There is a mobile medical unit present for confidential HIV testing. Recovery agencies from across the city are invited to set up tables and disseminate information on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, substance abuse treatment and prevention services, and HIV information and testing. Community and faith-based organizations provide skits and music, and children can add to a 40-foot long collage depicted their “Anti-Drug.” Village South also asks each invited agency to create a carnival activity so that visitors and participants can go from table to table playing typical carnival games.
