Addictions Counselor Day 2007
Description
Whereas, addiction counselors are uniquely qualified, frontline health care professionals who are indispensable in the process of guiding patients with addictive disorders to recovery;

Whereas, alcohol and drug disorders are a major public health problem that costs American society more than $300 billion each year, affecting millions of Americans of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds and in all communities through treatment, education, and prevention programs; and

Whereas, addictive disorders are a treatable disease and treatment of addiction is as successful as the treatment of other chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma; and

Whereas, tens of thousands of addiction-focused health care professionals have dedicated their lives to increasing awareness of alcohol and drug disorders and enhancing the care of individuals, families, and communities through treatment, education and prevention programs; and

Whereas, addiction counselors promote excellence in care by promoting the highest quality and most up-to-date, science-based services to our clients, our families and our communities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gary A. Rosenberg, Garrison Commander of the United States Army Garrison Bamberg, do hereby proclaim 20 September 2007

"Join the Voices for Recovery: Saving Lives, Saving Dollars"
Description
In conjunction with nationwide efforts celebrating alcohol and drug addiction recovery month in September, Asian Pacific American Community of Recovery Network (ACORN), a program at Asian Counseling & Referral Service and the People of Color Against AIDS Network (POCAAN) are sponsoring a one day recovery celebration titled "Join the Voices for Recovery: Saving Dollars, Saving Lives" on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, 12-6 p.m. at Powell Barnett Park (352 MLK Jr. Way at E. Alder St. Bus #8, 14). The goal of the event is to generate more social awareness and education on recovery targeting the underserved community. The event will allow the individuals and families, social service providers, mainstream chemical dependency treatment and substance abuse prevention providers, faith based organizations, the recovery community, criminal justice and legal system, and the general public to learn about the needs and importance of recovery in the field of substance abuse and/or mental health prevention, treatment and rehabilitative services.

We will be celebrating the strength, hope and faith as well as the accomplishments of people in recovery through multi-cultural rhythms, free raffled gifts, traditional delicious Asian plates, multi-ethnic inspirational speakers, a treatment graduation event, and health screenings. This event promises to enhance community connections to make treatment and support more accessible to communities of color and holds the vision of holistic health and wellness as primary concern. Please come join us and be our partners for recovery.
