Title
SAMHSA Sponsored-Recovery Month Open House/Fall Festival
Description
September is Recovery Month. It is a time for those recovering from alcohol and other drug addictions to celebrate their sobriety. I want to share with you what Cascade County is doing for Recovery Month as well as invite any and all to join us in the spirit of celebration.
On August 29, 2007, Governor Brian Schweitzer held a press conference at the State Capitol in Helena. He opened and closed his speech with Treatment Works. That spoke volumes to the crowd on hand. Roger Curtiss from Gateway Recovery Services was one of the three speakers present that offered personal stories of recovery. Thus, giving hope that Treatment Works.
To begin the celebration, on September 4th, Great Falls Mayor Stebbins has signed a Proclamation naming the month of September 2007 as National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. The Proclamation calls upon the citizens and businesses of Great Falls to advocate the treatment and prevention of drug and alcohol addiction.
Gateway Recovery is having an Open House on Friday, September 14, 2007 at our new renovated location at 1220 Central Avenue in Great Falls.
Gateway Recovery Services along with Meth Free Cascade County Task Force is putting on the recovery celebration at Gibson Park in Great Falls on September 16, 2007.
On September 16, 2007 in the beautiful Gibson Park in Great Falls our celebration will get underway with a Meth Free Walk for Recovery beginning at 2:00p.m. The park has a lovely, paved walking path and we are encouraging families to bring a picnic lunch and spend the entire day celebrating sobriety.
On the Park lawn, Gateway is going to have a canopy tent with several community affiliations representing--Cascade County Health Department, Job Corps, Gateway Recovery, Meth Free Cascade County, Cascade County Extension Office and Members of the Little Shell Chippewa Tribes doing their part in education and prevention for the treatment of drugs and alcohol addictions. We will also have a Jolly Jumper, Human Bowling, Sumo Wrestling Suits, and Face Painting. We are also going to have a dunking booth themed Dunk a Doughnut This is where Cascade County Fire Fighters and Cascade County Sheriffs Department and Police Officers will volunteer their time to get wet for the community celebration. We have also been sponsored by Meadow Gold and will have ice cream bars free to the public.
To keep all ages interested and involved, we have six Volunteer Senior Citizens that will be manning the games and doing a little face painting as well. While the fun and games are keeping the young and young at heart entertained, there will be live music in the band shell from 2:00-3:00pm.
At 3:00 p.m. our local Deputy County Attorney John Parker, who is currently campaigning for State Attorney General, will give a speech about Saving Lives, Saving Dollars. Mr. Parker is a strong advocate of addiction recovery and, in the last legislative session, he sponsored bills to increase funding for adult as well as juvenile courts. He is an active member of the Cascade County Drug Treatment Court. We will wind up the day with local speakers telling their stories of recovery.
This letter serves as an invitation to come and join us in the support and celebration of sobriety

Whereas, tens of thousands of addiction-focused health care professionals have dedicated their lives to increasing awareness of alcohol and drug disorders and enhancing the care of individuals, families, and communities through treatment, education and prevention programs; and

Whereas, addiction counselors promote excellence in care by promoting the highest quality and most up-to-date, science-based services to our clients, our families and our communities;
