Recovery in the Park
The Fairfax/Falls Church SAARA (Substance Abuse Addiction Recovery Alliance) will host "Recovery in the Park" to be held from Noon to 5 pm, September 25th, at Quincy Park. A special presentation by Johnny Allyum, of Faces and Voices of Recovery, at 12:15, co-sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic ATTC, will kick of the day's events. Additional activities include a raffles, lunch, music, and outdoor games.

SAARA of Central Virginia Community Health Fair
SAARA(Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Alliance) of Central Virginia will hold a community health fair from 2-5 pm in which the public is invited to learn about the impact of substance abuse on their community. A reception will be held from 5-6pm with speakers sharing their personal recovery stories from 6-7pm. The event will be concluded with a presentation "Unmask the Stigma" by William C. Moyers. The Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services, Richmond Behavioral Health Authority, the Mid-Atlantic Addiction Technology Transfer Center, Transitions in Recovery, Inc., and the Wood Building Company sponsor this event.

Recovery Month Community Cookout
Alexandria
As part of the months activities, the CSB held a Cook-Out with a Mayoral Proclamation at Charles Houston Recreation Center. Trader Joes provided hot dogs and fixings for over 200 people. The CSBs Substance Abuse Services Center held an open house, staff gave presentations and distributed literature in English and Spanish at local schools and community centers, and provided outreach to faith-based organizations.

SA Prevention Therapist will reach out to the Annandale Christian Community Alliance, Regent University, Catholic Charities, the Salvation Army and ALIVE! Christian Coalition to provide resources for incorporation of the Recovery Month message into their faith-based activities. Curriculum with a faith-based focus on Recovery will be distributed.
