In September, National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month, PRO-ACT will bring this year's campaign theme to life. We will "Join the Voices for Recovery -- Now!" by hosting our 3rd annual RECOVERY WALKS! along Kelly Drive in Philadelphia's beautiful Fairmount Park. Participants will enjoy a fantastic afternoon that includes a 3-mile walk, refreshments, children's activities, musical entertainment, and motivational speakers. Raise funds & collect your T-shirt, windbreaker or sweatshirt; proceeds support vital peer-to-peer recovery support services.

Recovery from Addiction: Life's Second Chance-SAMHSA Sponsored
In observance of the 15th Annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month, Johnson Memorial Methodist Church is hosting a conference for Methodist ministers to learn how it is possible for anyone to recover from the disease of addiction. Recovery is not limited to the addicted individual. Help is available for the families as well. Pastors will be educated on the disease and recovery process and also be provided with resources to assist their church families.

Registration is $12. A continental breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack will be provided. This seminar will focus on the disease of addiction, treatment, funding and recovery process. Included will be a discussion on how addiction impacts families. Learn how it is possible for families to recover, heal and forgive. Two speakers will share their stories - one, a recovering addict - the other, the wife of an addict.

Susan Rook - Faces and Voices of Recovery (Susan Rook is a media consultant specializing in addiction/recovery issues. Her passion is recovery advocacy - breaking the silence about addiction and showing the reality of recovery. Susan brings 20 years of journalism experience to her advocacy work. She became a nationally prominent news anchor while co-anchoring CNNs Prime News with Bernard Shaw. She later went on to host CNNs TalkBack Live. Currently she serves as a member of the Recovery Month Planning Committee, the National Treatment Plan Advisory Committee, the Wake Forest University Addiction Studies Program for Journalists, and the Advisory Group for National Alcohol Screening Day.)
