On Labor Day, hundreds of Oregon and Washington residents will celebrate recovery from alcohol and drug addiction when they join hands to span the Interstate 5 Bridge connecting the states of Oregon and Washington. The third annual Hands Across the Bridge event, set for 10-noon on Monday, Sept. 6, with ceremonies on both the Portland and Vancouver sides of the Columbia, kicks off National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. Last years event drew around 500 participants whose lives had been touched by addiction and recovery. This years event will be followed by a Recovery Rocks Celebration, with food, entertainment, booths, games and more! This event is sponsored by: The Recovery Association Project (RAP) Central City Concern, Oregon Partnership, Asian/Pacific American Community Support & Service Association (APACSA)

This event is for everyone that wants to celebrate the importance of recovery with our community. There will be refreshments provided along with speakers sharing their impact-full stories of how recovery has improved their lives.

"Recovery Walk"
Coos Bay
For the second straight year, members of the recovery community, treatment providers, and family and friends will participate in the "Recovery Walk". Participants walk as a group along the three mile long parade route, holding recovery signs, passing out candy, and being lead by a vehicle decorated in recovery slogans. The walk is done during the annual BAY AREA FUN FESTIVAL and in conjunction with the Steve Prefontaine Run/Walk events. The festival is full of activities, food, and fun all weekend long on the 18th and 19th of September. The parade itself is expected to have well over 100 other groups/agencies participating.

Meet at parade beginning prior to 10am when it starts. The parade lasts about 2 hours, and then a large BBQ and picnic will be held after the parade.

The Department of Human Services is sponsoring a training as part of COOS County's National Recovery Month Activities from 9:00 to 4:30pm on Friday the 17th. For the second consecutive year this DHS/Adapt/Community sponsored training will instruct DHS workers, Community Partners and Friends on Methamphetamine effects.
