"Making Research Work: Practical Strategies for Healing Our Communities"

"Making Research Work: Practical Strategies for Healing Our Communities", conference will be held on September 24 & 25, 2004 at the First Baptist Church, 1101 North Main Street, Sikeston, MO as part of recognition of National Recovery Month. Day one is designed for individuals that work in the field of substance abuse treatment, or other related human services such as nursing, social work, law enforcement, etc. and CEUS are pending. Registration fee - $40; Day two is for leaders in the faith community who would like to develop or enhance community based ministry. Both days are scheduled for 8:30 to 4:00 p.m. The conference focus is on how "science and service" can work together. The models and strategies presented by the speakers have been proven through scientific research to be effective. This event is hosted by Mission Missouri - Crossing Addiction Freedom Program, which is funded in whole by the Missouri Foundation for Health. The mission of the program is to create a network of programs to provide innovative addiction recovery services in the Southeast Missouri Region. Partnership for Community Solutions Public Forum
Jefferson City
A Public Forum will be held on September 16, 2004 at Ramada Inn in Jefferson City, Missouri. The forum will provide information from each committee chairman in the 12 areas of the Partnership for Community Solutions to drug and alcohol problems. Each committee has been meeting and developing strategies, programs and policies based on the capacities, skills and assets of the people and their communities. The community, rather than managed institutions, is best suited to help solve the problems of its citizens and the public forum will provide the information needed to make the best decisions for our community. Each sub-committee has developed a list of available resources as well as a list of "wants and needs". The 12 committees are; Shelter-Family Services-Youth Activities-Faith based activities- Recovery support services - Treatment services - Corrections and Enforcement - Fund raising & special events - Prevention -Advocacy and Media. Committee members include elected officials, professionals in the drug and alcohol field, state government officials, members of associations and individuals who have a passion for drug and alcohol recovery.

Recovery Walk 2004
The Jefferson City Missouri chapter of the Missouri Recovery Network will be sponsoring a recovery walk at Memorial Park in Jefferson City on October 9, 2004. The event will begin at 9 a.m. with introductions and welcome by our chapter chairman and local dignitaries. Local business owners have provided sponsorships and will be recognized at the walk. Members of the chapter have solicited donations for their own participation in the walk.
