Title
City of Portland's Community Recovery and Health Resource Fair
City
Portland
Description
The City of Portlands Overdose Project is hosting the second annual Community Recovery and Health Resource Fair. The Overdose Prevention Project targets potential and active drug users by applying prevention strategies that include direct education and intervention, outreach, advocacy and support. We have continued to partner with other agencies to provide educational workshops and support services to the homeless community in an effort to help people make positive choices in their lives. On Wednesday, September 15, 2004, we will be holding the second annual Community Recovery and Health Resource Fair at the Preble Street Resource Center. This special event is being offered in conjunction with National Recovery Month and will inform and educate the participants about recovery-oriented resources and health services. One of our goals, as a committee and as members of the diverse Portland community is to create opportunities for people to get back on track and establish more stable lives.

Voices of Recovery
The Landing Project and Grace Street Talk/Music Radio held their second recovery event in Portland Maine.3 Bands, poets, artists, acoustic musicians and speakers spoke publically about the dignity of recovery and shared story. Over 300 recovery folks participated. Assistant State Atorney General Jim Cameron spoke about how collective silence contributes to public stigma. Jim told the group how encourage he was to be a part of this significant event. 35 people in recovery took off white masks signifying silence and in a moving moment took off the masks to show the face of recovery. Channel 6 News provided great coverage.
