Providers Summit-Beginning A New Conversation
Oak Park
This is the Kick-off event; a working workshop; answering questions and most importantly, finding out what Providers want us to do. Why? The need for integration of Treatment and Recovery Support Services is upon us as an industry. The integration of Peer-Based Addiction Recovery Support Services with Treatment has been identified by SAMHSA as a critical issue in design and implementation of recovery support services. We intend to begin our integration of Treatment with Recovery Support Services with a Providers Summit to allow Providers to be a part of the decision-making process. The Providers Summit is to set the stage for Beginning A New Conversation, with the overt understanding that we need to talk to each other with a new voice, engage in new conversation and listen with a new ear. We want to simply ask Providers, i.e. How do they want to see Recovery Support Services develop and logistically structured?; What do they currently do that they believe are Recovery Support Services?; Where do they want to see Recovery Resource Center fit into the scheme of things?; How can RRC best assist their relentless efforts with members?; Are Providers interested in Peer-based assistance with member-developed Continuing Recovery Planning, on-site or off-site?; How can RRC and Providers best maximize collaborative alliances for the support, autonomy and victory for the individual recovery member? The Providers Summit will build upon learning evidenced by the 2003 RRC Community Needs Assessment for Providers: Providers want an all-inclusive referral source; Providers are asking for education on the subject of recovery support services; Providers want assistance with this new addition to the current continuum of care; Providers want a mechanism that keeps them informed of their clients progress after the client has left Treatment; Providers that are not members of the recovering community are feeling a reverse stigma and an exclusion from the new recovery movement; consequently, an alienating aura is being produced for many by the introduction of new buzz words, i.e. peer to peer, recovery support services, peer-led, peer-run and peer-driven; Providers want to know more about Recovery Communities Services Program and lessons learned about implementation of recovery support services.
