Staff will attend training on youth substance abuse prevention Parents will learn signs and symptoms of youth drug and alcohol usage, ways of preventing it, and how to access treatment for youth needing help. Their children will participate in age specific educational activities learning about drug and alcohol usage, the hows and whys of not using, and skill building to avoid usage. Parents and their children will participate in a joint educational activity to open the lines of communication about substance usage.

National Recovery Month Professionals Meeting

The Broward County Groups of Al-Anon, Alateen, and Alcoholics Anomymous will hold a two hour meeting with the purpose of allowing area professionals a chance to find out how the programs of Al-Anon, Alateen, and Alcoholics Anonymous really works. Speakers will share their experience, strength, and hope to professionals who can then carry the message to those who suffer from alcoholism. There will be a question and answer peroid at the end of the initial presentation.

The next national conference will be convening on October 16 - 20, 2004 in Orlando, Florida. AATOD produces national conferences on an 18-month cycle. These conferences have been convening since 1984 and provide an opportunity to interested parties to learn about the most current evidence-based practices in our field. The conferences provide different learning opportunities which include comprehensive pre-conference training sessions (pharmacotherapy training courses - management seminars - patient advocacy training), workshop topics, poster and plenary sessions in addition to policy-making forums and banquet ceremonies.
