Recovery Month Celebration

Yout Programs sponsored the activity, an event that included a youth talent show, fine refreshments, and a visit from a locally favorite group. The talent show showcased singing and dancing as well as a fashion show. In addition, the evening included a visit from the "G-Team," a local ministry on wheels from Calvary Assemble of God, and an extremely inspiring and educational open forum consisting of individual testimonies and discussion. Overall, the discussion focused on prevention and internvention as well as family and community issues as they relate to substance abuse. The G-Team is a favorite of both local youth and adults as well, a ministry that travels the state engaging the children directly in spiritually based activities. Most inspiring was the willingness of the youth to openly engage in such activity, not only by showcasing their talents, but by participating in the general discussion regarding the raveges of drug abuse.

The HIV/AIDS Deparment of the House of Pride sponsored the activity, an event that featured Dr. Rayton Sianjina, profesor at Delaware State University, as guest speaker. Dr. Sianjina spoke about the many problems that face our society in the new millennium, most especially HIV/AIDS and the drug addiction issues that company this epidemic disease. Sr. Sianjina continued by addressing the critical need for members of society to return to a path of spirituality, a path on which many have lost their way. After Dr. Sianjina's inspiring presentation, open discussion begun, a candid conversation that was very educational. Most of the individuals in attendance were very attentive, eager to share their experiences and testimonies of hope. Voter registration was part of the event, and several local politicians were in attendance. Refreshments were served and a Disk Jockey spun many of the crowds favorite tunes.
