Keynote Speaker: Allen Berger, PhD, has over thirty years of clinical experience in the treatment of addiction and is a veteran addiction specialist who provides complimentary psycho-social counseling to patients in our out-patient Buprenorphine Treatment Program. Dr. Berger established the Center for Counseling and Recovery in Torrance to serve the needs of individuals and families who are struggling with addiction. He has provided training for the staff at The Betty Ford Center and has been on national training programs discussing his work with addiction and families. Health Communications Inc. will be publishing Dr. Berger's latest book, Relationship Matters. I have been helping individuals and families struggling with addiction including alcoholism for over thirty years. This devastating illness affects each and every life it touches. Addiction is a family problem and therefore the entire family needs help. I have seen the spouses of the addict as emotionally ill and disturbed as their partner, but yet their problem receives much less attention because they are suffering behind the scenes. Recovery is characterized by breaking the bonds of addiction and finding your true self. This is true for both the addict and his or her partner. The wonderful thing about recovery is that the work that you need to do to recover from this devastating problem will not only help you recover what you have lost, but will help you become the kind of person you truly long to be. This cannot be said of many other medical problems. Maybe it is the reward of struggling with your suffering in the right way. Dr. Berger received his Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach. In 1987 he graduated with a Doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of California

Swing Fore Youth Golf Marathon
Acampo
In an effort to fund the treatment of youth with alcohol and other drug addictions, and other related behavioral health issues, this event is a 100 hole, fun-filled day of games, golf, prizes and great food. Supporters make a small pledge of between .25 cents and $2 dollars per hole in support of their favorite 100-hole golfer from their companies, departments, organizations, associations, groups or networks. Those donations mean that some young person will be able to begin or continue the mental health treatment that he or she really needs. Multiple people can work together to help raise per hole pledges too! Remember, every dollar raised towards youth treatment saves $4 to $7 dollars by reducing the need to pay for the results of crime, court costs and incarceration.
