NEW YORK CITY, NY - Public and private sector leaders gathered in New York City Tuesday to discuss partnerships for combating hunger worldwide. President George W. Bush dropped by the Investing in Agriculture Partnerships to Combat Hunger Symposium following his address to the UN General Assembly and stressed the United States' commitment to helping those who need food.

"We've committed about $5 billion of taxpayers' money over the next two years to make sure people don't go hungry," said President Bush. "And it's in our interest that we do that. On the other hand, it is always in our interest to promote a second Green Revolution."

U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator and Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance Henrietta Fore led the symposium and highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships to support food security, agriculture, and rural growth.

"We need to begin a new "Green Revolution" by focusing ourselves on private-sector led growth," said Administrator Fore. "The opportunity for private-sector led growth in the developing world is enormous. It will lead to a long term, sustainable development solution."

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, along with other world leaders, corporate executives, and private and public sector leaders participated in the discussions today with President Bush and Administrator Fore. Private sector leaders shared their experiences in working to reduce hunger around the world, by creating self-sustaining communities using agriculture and technology.
