WASHINGTON, D.C. - Henrietta Fore, Administrator for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), participated in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony with American Charities for Palestine, launching a public-private partnership aimed at expanding U.S. private donor assistance to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.

The American Charities for Palestine (ACP) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to offer a secure and efficient means of transferring charitable donations from individuals and entities in the U.S. to USAID-managed programs for the Palestinians. USAID and ACP will work closely together in order to achieve this goal.

"In a world with ever increasing demands on resources, and with new and ongoing humanitarian crises and development needs, it is vital that USAID reach out to, and work with, the nongovernmental sector in order to advance change," Administrator Fore said.

The MOU signing marks the first step for ACP and USAID to create a mechanism to facilitate American donations for charitable causes in the West Bank and Gaza. Under this MOU, ACP will mobilize private donations from the American community and then will collaborate with USAID to jointly program the funds in direct support of mutually agreed upon projects and activities in the West Bank and Gaza, particularly in the areas of health and education.

These efforts will support USAID's ongoing commitment to improve the livelihoods and provide humanitarian and development assistance to the Palestinian people.

The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development, have provided economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for nearly 50 years.
