Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate (Excludes SIC 6552 Subdividers

This division includes establishments operating primarily in
the fields of finance, insurance, and real estate.  Finance
includes depository institutions, nondepository credit 
institutions, holding (but not predominantly operating)
companies, other investment companies, brokers and dealers 
in securities and commodity contracts, and security and
commodity exchanges.  Insurance covers carriers of all types
of insurance, and insurance agents and brokers.  Real estate
includes owners, lessors, lessees, buyers, sellers, agents, 
and developers of real estate.  Establishments primarily
engaged in construction of buildings for sale (operative
builders) are classified in Industry 15. SIC 6552 has been
classified as a separate major group and placed under the
Construction Division. 

Also excluded from this industry division are selected parts of
SIC 63--Insurance Carriers [Pension Funds (self-managed funds and
funds managed by a 3rd party); and Health and Welfare Funds (self
managed funds and funds managed by a 3rd party)]; and selected parts
of  SIC 67--Holding and Other Investment Offices [Management
Investment Offices, Open-End; Unit Investment Trusts, Face-Amount
Certificate Offices, and Management Investment Offices, Closed-End;
Vacation Funds for Employees; and Personal Investment Trusts].
