About Action Against Hunger

Action Against Hunger, an independent, non-profit, non-religious, and non-governmental organization, has a proven track record in the struggle to end hunger. Since 1979, Action Against Hunger has offered swift emergency aid and long-term help-aimed at self-sufficiency-to children, women, and men suffering from the dire consequences of man-made crises and natural disasters. The organization takes a unique and integrated approach to address hunger using complementary programs in nutrition, water and sanitation, health, and long-term food sustainability.

With headquarters in Paris, London, Madrid, Montreal, and New York, Action Against Hunger manages programs in over 40 countries. Over 400 specialists in the fields of nutrition, agriculture, water and sanitation, and public health work with local teams of over 4,000 people to develop programs that are well adapted to the needs of its beneficiaries. Action Against Hunger believes a world without hunger is possible if individuals and communities across the globe come together to create the public and political will.

International Voluntary Service Activities

Action Against Hunger employees trained expatriates to work in the fields of food security (including livelihoods and agriculture), nutrition (specializing in the treatment of childhood malnutrition), water and sanitation, and health (geared towards the health problems associated with malnutrition). Backing these expatriates, are those in general management, human resources, finance, and logistics.

Most expatriates work for 12 months.

There are currently 400 expatriates working in 44 countries around the world. At any given time there are at least 40 posts available through Action Against Hunger USA or one of our sister organizations.

Volunteer Profile Summary
Expatriates must be experienced in their chosen field of work and preferably have experience living or working overseas. Expatriates should also have experience managing teams and be capable of understanding and following budgets. Action Against Hunger has ongoing rehabilitation activities in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. These center around re-establishment of the water and sanitation infrastructures and re-establishing livelihoods.
