About International Volunteer Program, Habitat for Humanity International

Welcome to Habitat for Humanity Internationals International Volunteer Program! From its very beginning, Habitat for Humanity has relied on the expertise, commitment and spirit of volunteers to help end poverty housing. And now your dreams of going global can become reality. This new program is designed to:

  • Engage people in the international movement for simple, decent housing
  • Enhance Habitat for Humanity organizations around the world
  • Empower volunteers to have a meaningful experience while living abroad

Summary of Business or Organization's International Voluntary Service Activities: The International Volunteer Program (IVP) was started as a pilot program in November 2004. Since that time we have placed more than 10 volunteers in 5 different countries around the world. In 2006, as the IVP moves from the pilot phase into a full-fledged program, we expect to have 20 various opportunities in at least 9 countries.

International Voluntary Service Activities

The IVP currently offers opportunities for Special Project Volunteers who work on specific projects and programs to support the work at an affiliate, national office or area office, as designated on the position description. These projects help to build capacity in many areas of Habitat for Humanity, such as administration, communications, specialized construction, finance, program, resource development and training.

Check out the volunteer positions that are currently open for application and thoroughly read the country descriptions to get an idea of what to expect from your term of service. Once you find a match for your talents and interests, you are ready to download the application and waiver of liability.

The cost of participation will vary from country to country. However, in all cases the international volunteer is required to pay for all costs associated with living abroad, including but not limited to MedEx insurance, housing, food and travel to and from the host country.
