Contact Media Services: (240) 276-2130 Date: 9/2/2008 2007 National Survey on Drug Abuse Results and Individual Stories of Recovery to be Highlighted at Recovery Month Press ConferenceThe Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will unveil the results of the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 4. The annual survey, formerly called the “Household Survey” is the largest of its kind, and is the government’s primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco. The release of the 2007 survey results is the keynote of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference marking a month long observance of the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers.
SAMHSA is a public health agency within the Department of Health and Human Services. The agency is responsible for improving the accountability, capacity and effectiveness of the nation's substance abuse prevention, addictions treatment, and mental health services delivery system. |
