About Lifewater International

Lifewater International (LI) is a Christian training organization with water development goals. We understand the basic need in our world for safe water, improved hygiene, and adequate sanitation. We believe that the solutions to these problems can be addressed through the development of local communities. Qualified Lifewater Volunteer Trainers (VTs) travel to developing countries to train nationals to improve local drinking water supplies and community health. National crews are able to continue working and training others after VTs return home. They share the gospel message of living water with communities as they help break the cycle of disease and poverty.

International Voluntary Service Activities

Today, Lifewater has over 250 active VTs from many professional backgrounds, including teachers, small business owners, hydro-geologists, engineers, environmental scientists, and marketing specialists, to name a few. Our VTs have served on over 50 projects on five continents around the world. Since 1979, VTs and Lifewater-trained crews have installed 2,500 water systems and helped serve an estimated one million people with safe water.

Over the past twelve months we sent out 70 VTs on 15 different trips. Over the next twelve months we expect to send out 130 VTs on 30 different trips. Each training trip consists of one Team Leader, 1-3 Lead Trainers depending on what is required, and 3-5 VTs. The trips are scheduled based on the international partner's schedule and the Team Leader's availability. Training trips can last between one to four weeks.

Volunteer Profile Summary

Lifewater attracts many water professionals. However, as our programs have expanded, more people with diverse backgrounds have been able to participate and become Volunteer Trainers. Our VTs consist of drillers, teachers, nurses, farmers, business people, mechanics, pastors, water professionals, construction workers, and others. The most important thing is that each VT agrees with Lifewater's Value Statement, has a desire to train others, demonstrates competency in at least one Lifewater training program, and is comfortable sharing Jesus' love in word and deed in cross-cultural settings.

Lifewater's training trips are designed for people who have some experience overseas and are able to make a long term commitment to Lifewater. Each trip is specifically coordinated to fit into a larger, overarching training plan developed annually for each project. Because the work we are doing is so specialized, we are looking for long-term, committed Volunteer Trainers who are willing to receive the training necessary to serve on the trips.
