About Florida Association for Volunteer Action in the Caribbean and the Americas
The Florida Association for Volunteer Action in the Caribbean and the Americas (FAVACA) is a private, non-profit organization established in 1982. FAVACA's mission is to improve social and economic conditions in the region. Through a diverse combination of federal, private and State of Florida funding sources, FAVACA provides top-caliber technical assistance and training through Florida-based volunteers. Each year FAVACA conducts an average of 180 volunteer missions and in the past 25 years, more than 1,500 volunteer missions to 29 nations and territories of the region have been completed.
International Voluntary Service Activities
In the past year, FAVACA has carried out 185 volunteer missions in the areas of environmental preservation, economic growth, healthcare, disaster mitigation, agriculture, education, organizational strengthening, diaspora outreach and youth and women's leadership. FAVACA maintains a database of several thousand past and prospective volunteers. The organization expects to send a similar number of volunteers in the coming year.
