Mining Waste in Indian Country
Many tribes have mineral resources on their lands and have either experienced mining activities in the past or plan to engage in mining in the future. Mining activities generate waste from the ore or mineral extraction process and from beneficiation (i.e., ore separation from overburden and host rock as well as concentration activities to purify the metals). Mining can create environmental problems such as acid mine drainage, erosion, dust emission, and surface- and ground-water contamination. The page provides access to publications and regulations that will help you meet the challenges of managing mining waste. URL: http://www.epa.gov/tribalmsw/pdftxt/biblio.pdf Rate this site!
